The 7 Steps of Success: Before and After

If you are reading this chances are you have a goal you want to accomplish. Whether it is losing weight or getting a better job the process is the same. The thing is if you don't know where to start you might as well not even have a goal in the first place. I to have felt the frustration of failing over and over and not knowing why. Now failing isn't a bad thing but eventually we all want to make it, right? Of course I'm right! Here are some important things to remember when trying to accomplish something.

1. Vision- The first thing you have to do is know what you what to do. You can't just say " Ummm... I want to be rich" and then land millions the next day. You have to break it down. You have to see what you want and find the path to get there. Vision is defining your goal. Not only being able to see the end but also what you think the means should be.

The thing is you might not always know what it takes to get to where you want to go. So here is an awesome tip. Find someone who is where you want to be. Maybe they have wrote books. Maybe they are one of your friends. Well find out more about them. See what they had to do to get there. Observe the changes they made. This simple tip will get you into the second step of accomplishing your goals.

2. Taking Action- Now that you have a pretty good idea of what you have to do, the next step is pretty simple. Start doing it!  You are not going to be perfect right out of the gate. Remember to keep consulting your roll-model in whatever form it may be. When you first start you have to be ready to learn something new. So get out there and fail a little. It's one of the best teachers if you do it right.

3. Fail Forward- It's true. You CAN fail at failing. If you let failure defeat you it's like dropping the best class you will ever take in life. When we fail its the perfect time to see why. Don't focus on the fact that you failed. See what you did that made you fail. Then figure out how to overcome it. People who are successful didn't have a free ride to the top. They failed forward, in some cases for years, until they got it right. So lets change our view on failing. It is a positive thing if we learn from it.

4. Pushing through- This step goes right along with failing forward but it is a good one to think about. After we fail ,or when things get hard, that is when we need to apply more effort, not give up. This has been one of the hardest things for me to overcome. Pushing through means when we fail forward the next step is to keep going. Just like running long distances it is easier to push through the pain then it is to stop and try to start back up again.

When things get hard remember why you wanted to accomplish your goal. This also means breaking up your goal into smaller goals. If you go right for the main goal you are going to start to feel like its impossible. So establish your "road" and include "mile markers" so you know how far you have come.

Another tip is to reward yourself. When you hit a "mile maker" it is more then OK to pat yourself on the back. Do something fun. Let lose. If you are serious all the time your going to burn out. The reward doesn't have to be something big. Maybe it's just taking a day off or going on a hike. Use this time to relax and collect yourself. It is a major part of pushing through and getting to where you want to be.

5. Success!- Here we are! You did it! You have accomplished your goal. Celibate! Now you may have made it but there are still some things to do.

6. Maintenance- You know what it takes to get what you want. So now you have to keep doing it. Don't let the joy of success distract you. Keep it up! This is most likely second nature to you by now but sometimes it's easy to slip back into old ways. Keep on keeping on!

7. Setting Your Next Goal- Now you know for sure you can do something if you put your mind to it. So use your success as motivation to conquer your next goal. Success feels good and now I'm sure you have the bug. So lets go out and chase some more! When you are in the lead there is only one thing to do, get a bigger lead!
